solar art
bio
Kevin Gauna started Sunbrothers in 1995 while studying materials science and engineering at UC Berkeley. His original creations were small solar powered ornaments designed to hang in a sunny window. From there he moved to sunflowers, vining sweet peas, roses, tulips, giant carrots, lilies...this list goes on. While growing his garden of artwork, he also worked as a scientist developing LED illumination applications for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the California Lighting Technology Center. He currently consults on LED system design and solar/electronic prototype development, and works on renewable energy access technologies for Lighting Global. His scientific work dovetails both technically and philosophically with his art and helps propel quality and innovation in his sculptural designs. He optimistically believes that technology has tremendous potential to improve society and that we have a moral imperative to work towards a fairer, more sustainable future for both people and the ecosystems in which we live.
